After exploring the jazz piano styles and techniques at the Gioventù Musicale d'Italia with pianist Marcello Tonolo and with Luigi Bonafede ('83 – '86), Danilo attended the Siena jazz intensive seminars for four consecutive years studying with Franco D'Andrea, Amedeo Tommasi, Enrico Rava and other teachers ('87 – '90). He also participated, first as a student and then as assistant, in courses held by the Manhattan School of Music (which granted him a scholarship in '97) and by Barry Harris, Gary Burton, Lee Konitz, in Italy and in New York.

Besides directing his own trio, since 1998 and for over 10 years Danilo has been the pianist in the quartet of the great New York saxophonist Steve Grossman. He also worked continually with Carlo Atti, Roberto Rossi, Marco Tamburini, Robert Bonisolo, Pietro Tonolo, Fabrizio Bosso, Sandro Gibellini, Piero Odorici, Fabio Morgera and many other musicians on the Italian and international jazz scene. Since the end of the 90s he started to release albums under his own name ("JAZZ" and "FELIEC") and as a sideman. Throughout the years, he has been on numerous tours with American artists like John Mosca, Dave Schnitter, Vincent Herring, Lew Tabackin, Jesse Davis, Tom Kirkpatrick, Bob Sands, Kurt Weiss... He has played at clubs, festivals and residencies in Italy, France, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Greece, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Norway and in New York. In 2007 he formed the international group "Newropean Quartet" and released "AMAPOLA" for the German record label Birdland Records; in 2010 he published "TIME ON MY HANDS" with the extraordinary contribution of Steve Grossman; in 2011 "EARLY AUTUMN" with Ruth Young, the famous American singer - life and musical partner of the great Chet Baker in the 70s. The most recent album, followed by concerts in Italy and Europe, came out in 2013 with the title "ALL MY TOMORROWS" (sextet with Mosca, Reichert and Weiss). In the last few years he has often been playing with the Newropean Quartet in Italy, Austria, Poland and Germany.

> ATTIVITA’ DIDATTICA

Dalla metà degli anni ’90 insegna pianoforte e musica d’insieme jazz, principalmente presso i seguenti istituti musicali: Scuola Thelonious di Vicenza, Accademia Musicale di Schio (VI), Circolo Unisono Fortepiano di Feltre (BL), Associazione Musicale F. Manzato (TV). Tiene seminari sull’improvvisazione jazzistica in Italia, Grecia, Spagna e Germania. Ha lavorato come assistente di pianoforte jazz e traduttore per le newyorkesi Manhattan School e New School (’98, ’99 e 2004) e prestato la propria opera come docente di pianoforte jazz presso il Conservatorio “E. Dall’Abaco” (Verona) nel triennio 2007/2009. Nel 2011 ha tradotto in italiano il manuale didattico “METAPHORS FOR THE MUSICIAN” di Randy Halberstadt, pubblicato dall’editore musicale Volontè di Milano. Dal 2021 ha iniziato la docenza di Pianoforte Jazz, lavorando presso i Conservatori di Adria, Rovigo, Udine e Brescia.
